TAR- Race & Grace Lessons To Be Learned- Congrats Ernie & Cindy

Aris-Arnelle Durocher

The Amazing Race Finale was this past Sunday and there are lessons that can be drawn from watching the teams racing around the world.

The Amazing Race ended their season with one couple winning the million dollars. While one half of the couple was fine ( Ernie) , I simply didn't like Cindy Chiang. She was annoying all through the race, she was whiny, she had temper tantrums when things didn't go her way and at times she was rude. She expected to be first all the time and even asked the dynamic couple of Andy and Tommy to let them win first. She really was not a good sport which I think is needed in the race. However her fiance Ernie Halvorsen displayed immense patience and eloquence in the race and with the woman he is going to eventually marry.

While congratulations is in order they did win the million, I think that Cindy Chiang needs to understand being strong and competitive is different then expecting to win all the time and stamping her foot as well as giving up when one runs into a problem.

The dynamic team of Andy and Tommy finished fourth, they learned the lesson that even though they finished first six times, that a little humility is what is required. The boys got to ahead of themselves. Andy just needed to take the time in one challenge and mess with Sandy who was afraid of heights. Then they failed to pay attention to detail, thought they had it in the bag to be in the F3 and in turn they came in last in that episode and were sadly eliminated.

They really got ahead of themselves and didn't treat each leg of the race as simply new. They were careless and it lost them the million dollars. If they had stayed in the race, they would have won the million in my opinion. Nonetheless out of all the teams they won the most legs and went home with a chunk of cash, new cars and trips. They have nothing to cry about!

The teams of Amani and Marcus along with Bill and Cathi were my favorites. Amani and Marcus did show that every time their backs were up against the wall, they never quit. I really liked what Amani shared in the life lesson to be learned and what she drew off of her Amazing Race experience and that was never to quit. Amani often shared with viewers a quiet well reflected and versed wisdom. Marcus did show some venting frustration in the F3 when he had to do the plane challenge several times. Marcus saw the million dollars racing away from him in his home city where they had the advantage had he finished that task earlier. I liked this couple because they were usually calm, gallant and funny. Amani made me laugh when she spoke about her husbands outburst and that if any of their four children followed suit that it would be on. That it would be deemed as unacceptable. They were good sports and accept for a vent here and there in Marcus I was hoping that they would win. At the very least they were one of my teams to win. Andy and Tommy were another team I wanted to see win.

The other team I really liked and was hoping would win was Bill and Cathi. I just thought they were delightful, full of wonderful wisdom and spirit. Bill made me giggle on a challenge when they were rowing. There was Cathi rowing and there was Bill boatdancing with his oar where she could not see him. Not only were they the oldest couple ever to go so far in the history of the Amazing Race they showed that they could keep up with the younger teams.

One has to give Jeremy and Sandy their props they really rallied all the time and would somehow get through the legs. Sandy would also make me laugh when they would exhibit feeling challenged in tasks and there would be the older couple Bill and Sandi jetting by them in the race. She often quipped at the humbleness that she felt that the grandparent team was outracing them!

Although I had my favorites to win I did like all the couples except for the annoying one that won in Cindy Chiang, I just think while she is certainly competitive and that they should be congratulated in running and winning the race that she should also take some humble lessons out of this experience and work on those weaknesses in her character. Her finance seems to be a nice guy and he made up for what she lacked thereof in the her character.

Congratulations Cindy Chiang and Ernie Halvorsen For your Amazing Race Win.
